Camberley International Festival – Animation and Film Panel Discussion

We will be live streaming the panel discussion with industry experts as part of our animation and film festival this Thursday 21st June at 7pm. There are still some spaces left for the masterclasses at Camberley Theatre along with the animation and short film awards. Please check here for details.

For anyone who is unable to attend, this is the perfect opportunity to tune in and take part! We will be taking questions live, via our Facebook along with audience members at Camberley Theatre. Simply post your question in the comments below the live stream and we will ask the panel to answer it live.

Robert Doherty

Rob is VP Production for Cake Entertainment and has 25 years experience in the children’s television and animation industry. He has worked in every format of animation and in many countries around the world, as well as on both sides of the production/broadcast divide; working for ITV, Aardman, Disney, M2 Films, Endemol, Initial Productions, TVC Cartoons, Grand Slamm Children’s Films, Kindle Entertainment, Nexus Productions, Larkshead Media and now Cake Entertainment as VP Production.

He also started and runs festivus, an animation social and networking event that has been going for over 12 years, and regularly sits on advisory boards and panels.

 

 

Emma Calder

Emma was born in London. She studied Graphic design at The Royal College of Art. She has worked as an Animation Director, Artist, Graphic Designer and Lecturer and has written, designed and illustrated books, for both adults and children. She co-founded Pearly Oyster Productions making many successful and award winning aniumated films, including The Queens Monastery (BBC). She is currently working on her first feature length animation.

Emma lives in London with her partner and two children.

 

Jason Glenister

Jason has over 25yrs experience in all aspects of the film & TV, writing, advertising and the creative industries.

He began his career writing & directing music videos and documentaries. From music videos, he moved into writing and directing TV commercials and more recently into digital content creation.

He’s currently Creative Director and founding member of new digital Innovation agency Unicorn XP. He describes this role as helping ‘humanise’ the digital world.

His combination of film, scriptwriting, commercial and digital experience – learnt over 25 years – has naturally led Jason to delivering rich narrative-based content and campaign ideas.

 

 Harriet Titlow

Harriet graduated from Middlesex University BA Animation in 2014 and went on to work as a Character Design Assistant on ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ children’s television series. She now works at Middlesex University as a Graduate Academic Assistant, helping students progress and learn new techniques and assisting lectures in their teaching. She also works on her own personal freelance practice, on music video projects and illustration.

Tri-County Shortlisted Films!

We have had an incredibly high standard of films and animations entered into the competition this year; the judges have had a very hard task to pick the short list. However, after much talk and debate, they have indeed selected these wonderful films.

All of these films will be shown in the main auditorium from 8pm on Thursday 21st June. Our patron, the BAFTA Award winning actress, Juliet Aubrey will be announcing the winners and presenting the trophies and prizes. Please feel free to attend – these are great works, all films are ten minutes or under.

We will also be announcing and showing the Best International and Best U.K. entries.

We had over 180 International films, 90 UK films and 50 Tri County films entered into the competition this year.

Film Competition Longlists Announced!

We may have already mentioned we were blown away by the volume and talent of the film entries for our film and animation competition this year?

We had over 180 International Films, Over 80 UK films and over 50 Tri-County (Surrey / Berks / Hants) films.

Our jury members have been locked away in darkened rooms viewing, taking notes and compiling our long and short lists.

Very special thanks go to Alex Underwood and Rebecca Fox for helping us through this stage. An extra special thanks to Kelly Kitsiouli without whom we would still be viewing the films!

These lists have now been sent to the judging panel, Juliet Aubrey, Robert Doherty, Jason Glenister and last year’s winners Evie Gordon and Francis Cousins.

The Awards ceremony will be taking place at Camberley Theatre on Thursday 21st June at 8pm. It’s free toattend and all are very welcome. The bar will be open all evening and the awards will be presented by BAFTA Award winning actress and C.I.F. patron, Juliet Aubrey.

Live Streaming….Animation and Film Discussion

We are organising several live streams of events during the CIF period, #CIFLive.

Some will be surprise ‘pop up’ events from Camberley between 20 – 23rd June, so keep watching our social media spaces!

Animation and Film Free Masterclasses

Calling all film and animation people!

Thanks very much to all who have entered the CIF short film / animation competition! The deadline for entries has now passed. Long lists and short lists will be announced soon. We had over 180 International entries and 100 UK entries!

The Awards Ceremony will take place at Camberley Theatre on 21st June 2018. All are very welcome to attend. Prizes will be presented by the BAFTA Award winning actress Juliet Aubrey.

To start things off on the evening of Thursday 21st June from 6pm, we will be hosting free to attend masterclasses and panel discussions with industry experts. These are perfect for anyone considering a future in creative media / animation or film making. Even if you are just curious to see how animations and films are made, please feel free to come along. At 8pm everyone is invited to attend the ten shortlisted Tri- County competition entries plus the Best UK and the Best International entries. These will be shown in the main auditorium. The Tri-County award winners will then be announced and presented with their trophies by BAFTA Award winning actress and C.I.F. patron, Juliet Aubrey. The theatre bar will be open all evening, so please come along and have a fantastic film filled night! There will also be drinks in the bar after the awards have taken place with plenty of networking opportunities.

We are delighted to let you know that The Unthanks concert at Camberley Theatre has now sold out of tickets!

There are still tickets for the wonderful Jon Culshaw on Saturday 23rd June and of course lots of free events including the film and animation festival at the theatre on Thursday 22nd June and plenty of other events around Camberley including the Carnival on Saturday 23rd June.

Film Masterclass with Gavin Irvine

6 – 7pm Masterclass with Gavin Irvine

Gavin is a multi-award winning Northern Irish writer/director based in London.

In 2018 he won the Special Jury Award at the Canada Independent Film Festival, Montreal, for his surreal comedy, 2:40 to London, which also won him Best Director and Best Short at the Portugal International Film Festival in 2017 (both Filmfreeway top 100 festivals), and a further 3 nominations – Best Score, Best Comedy and Best Short – at various other film festivals.

Gavin’s masterclass will be focussing on the process of making a short film; from script to screen and how to promote it afterwards – touching on all aspects of the process – writing, directing, producing, editing, music. Gavin will also point out the pitfalls and the things that must be put in place for the project to be a success. There will be a Q&A session with Gavin afterwards.

If you can put which category your submission will fall  under (Short Film / Documentary / Animation / Experimental) and where you are based if you are a student,  where you study. The competition is open to all though, not just film students.
